Resources for Faculty/Staff

Faculty and staff may have questions about their reporting obligations under Title IX. Reporting obligations largely depend on someone’s role as a Responsible Employee. The Title IX & Sexual Misconduct Office offers consultations around reporting obligations and can even discuss hypothetical scenarios before moving forward with an official report.  The Title IX & Sexual Misconduct Office also has a great FAQ section on their website for general questions, as well as FAQs related to roles within an investigation and for parents/families.  You can access this information on the Title IX & Sexual Misconduct website (titleix.tcnj.edu) under the “Get Help” section.

If a faculty or staff member has questions about supporting a survivor, AVI offers consultations around how best to approach a disclosure (or debriefing a disclosure that has happened), follow-up care and accommodations. In order to connect with an AVI clinician for a consultation, please call 609-771-2272 or email the Assistant Director for Anti-Violence Initiatives, Michelle Lambing, at michelle.lambing@tcnj.edu.

How Can I Get Involved in Prevention Work?

We are often asked, how can I get involved in prevention work, or how do I make it known to students that I want to be a resource to them in regards to sexual violence?  These are great questions, and we appreciate you being a part of these efforts.

There are several ways to get involved in the prevention work with AVI:

1. Be proactive in establishing your commitment to supporting survivors and the prevention efforts on campus.

    1. If you’re teaching a class, one of the simplest ways to do this is to include a statement on your syllabus.  AVI has written one that can be used or adapted to fit your tone of voice and course needs.  The statement is located here: https://oavi.tcnj.edu/our-syllabus-statement/
    2. If you’re planning a program, reach out to us about cosponsorship or opportunities to partner/infuse content.

2. Invite AVI speakers to your class or organization. If you would otherwise have to cancel a class, think about replacing that lecture with one of AVI’s programs.  Or, infuse an AVI program into your class or office curriculum.  Find a list of available programs here: https://avi.tcnj.edu/educational-trainings/.   AVI kindly requests a week’s notice for programming requests.

3. Attend our programs throughout the year.  AVI hosts a variety of programs to help community members identify violence and intervene safely.  We also host programming around healthy relationships and healthy sexuality.  During Domestic Violence, Stalking and Sexual Assault Awareness Months, we host plenty of open programs and encourage students, faculty and staff to attend.  You can also sign up to present at “Day to End Rape Culture,” an expo style event where faculty, staff and students come together to provide education about ways to identify rape culture and how to address it.  See our “Prevention Programming” tab to learn more about our programs.
