Chris Freeman, LPC, LCADC

Assistant Director for AOD Support Services

Licensed Professional Counselor

Chris Freeman is passionate about helping students live healthy, joyful, and meaningful lives. His mission is to help students thrive by achieving health and wellness with an emphasis on the intersection of substance use and mental health. Chris supports students along the continuum of care by working to reduce, mediate, and/or help students heal from the impact of alcohol and other drug use.  In his current role, he provides prevention, counseling, and recovery support services.

Chris has been providing clinical, supervisory, and recovery services since 2005. Prior to coming to TCNJ, he worked in community counseling agencies and even had a short stint in a correctional facility. In 2015, he came to TCNJ to start a Collegiate Recovery Program. In this role he helped build a community of students committed to mental health and addiction recovery. In 2021, he became the Assistant Director of Alcohol and Drug Support Services.

Chris is a graduate of TCNJ’s Counselor Education Program and holds the Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor credentials. He brings authenticity, approach-ability, and humor to his work with students.

When he is not thinking about ways to empower and support students, he is spending time with his wife and his three daughters, mangling home DIY projects, obsessing over coffee, and taking long walks while listening to podcasts.
